Good but LOUD!
I mostly use this slicer for slicing roasts for jerky or to slice meats that I cook and then vacuum pack for the freezer.
It does a good job slicing meats, with a nice range of thicknesses.
I have had problems with slicing soft cheese and having it stick to the blade but that may be a problem with most of these slicers.
There are two things that bother me with this slicer.
This slicer is very loud, It makes you cringe while it is on.
The other is that it is a pain to clean. It doesn't disassemble
for cleaning and you are not supposed to get water in the motor so washing this whole unit in the sink and not getting water in the motor is impossible. You just need to be sure to shake out as much of the water that you get in the motor as possible and let it dry out well.
Very slow blade rotation and not easy to clean
I have only owned this for about a week and have sliced a roast for jerky and onions to dehydrate. "The blade is easily removed but little meat bits get stuck in a lot of places that are difficult to clean. I have resorted to removing the meat bits with a toothpick.
I sliced up a 5 lb bag of onions using the machine and it wasn't easy. The blade rotation is so slow it actually got stuck in the onion which I had to back off of the blade and try to push through again. It certainly is much faster than slicing by hand and the blade is extremely sharp but it struggled slicing though onions, something I thought it would handle with ease. I wish there was a method for increasing the blades rotation.
Excellent product construction and performance for the price!
I picked one of these up from Walmart for $49 on black friday 2012, and I've used it for meat, cheese, fruit, and other food. I believe the other reviewer didn't read the manual, since the machine EASILY comes apart for cleaning (tool less). I was hesitant to buy it after the above review, but I must say I am 100% happy with my purchase. I do worry that the 10 minute operation limit in the manual and the plastic gearing may wear out after some time though, but what do you expect for this price? I figure if it breaks, it can be rebuilt easily enough, the machine has a solid metal construction and is an excellent value for the price. I was unexpectedly surprised. The warranty is icing on the cake.
The machine slices through all food I've attempted quickly and effortlessly, my mandolin days are over except for julienne slicing. Slicing cheddar cheese, summer sausage, potato chips, apple rings, etc was quick and efficient. My only realistic design complaint for this price range...
